7 Reasons Not to Forget Your Sunscreen
You know that you should wear sunscreen. However, with the warm days of summer calling your name, it can be easy to rush outside without applying sunscreen first. Mountain State ENT & Aesthetics wants to remind you that sunscreen is more important than you might think.
Sunscreen is a Must Because…
The Ozone Layer is Depleting
In theory, the ozone layer absorbs harmful UVB rays before they reach the earth’s surface. Once acting as a powerful sun shield, a depleting ozone layer leaves us increasingly exposed to the sun’s rays and thus, more vulnerable to their damaging effects.
It is estimated that an astounding 90 percent of photoaging is caused by environmental damage. Regular sunscreen application slows skin aging and protects against wrinkles, hyperpigmentation (sun spots), and loss of elasticity.
Set an Example for Your Kids
Children are more sensitive to the sun and thus, are also more susceptible to sun damage. Exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet light can cause significant genetic damage to their skin and have far reaching repercussions throughout their lives.
More than a Sunburn
In addition to being painful, a sunburn reduces your body’s ability to rid itself of excess heat and leaves you vulnerable to heat related ailments, such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Take precautions by re-applying sunscreen if you know you will be out in the hot sun.
Keeps You Looking Young
One study found that those who used sunscreen daily were 24 percent less likely to show increased signs of aging.
Decreases the Risk of Skin Cancer
According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, sun exposure accounts for 90 percent of non-melanoma skin cancers and 65 percent of melanomas, the most deadly form of skin cancer. Sunscreen has been shown to reduce the risk of melanoma by 50 percent.
Sunscreen no longer has to be a tedious task. Do make sure to look for broad spectrum protection with an SPF of 30 to ensure your skin is protected from both UVA and UVB rays. We love Obagi® Medical’s line up of sun products.
