Congratulations on your pregnancy! Marking the beginning of a new chapter in your life, the first few months of pregnancy are an exciting time for you and your growing family. Along with the excitement, you are bound to have many questions. For women who have previously undergone breast augmentation, there are often many questions as to what and how their breast implants will affect—and be affected—by pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.
Several common factors can cause the breasts to change over time. Your breasts may begin to sag or droop due to events such as pregnancy or weight loss, or simply due to the normal effects of aging. The breast lift is a surgical breast enhancement procedure that is designed to elevate a woman’s breasts to a more youthful position.
Considering Breast Lift Surgery in West Virginia?
Each year, many women choose to undergo breast lift surgery as a means to restore the youthful appearance of their breasts. Breast lift surgery is especially common with mothers who have experienced some drooping or sagging of the breasts due to pregnancy and breastfeeding. Women who have lost a large amount of weight may also need a breast lift to correct the position of their breasts.
Age and gravity are other big factors that can contribute to sagging of the breasts. As the skin around the breasts loses elasticity, it can cause the breasts to point downward or begin to droop. This is a normal effect of aging, but can be corrected with a breast lift.
Dr. Paine will apply dressings and bandages to your incisions once your surgery is complete. You will be required to wear a special support bra to help minimize swelling. You should be ready to take at least a week off work, but should wait 4-6 weeks before heavy lifting or other more strenuous tasks.
As your body heals, the changes in your breasts will become more apparent. You will notice a firmer, tighter silhouette and a perkier position.
Breast implant augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure used to increase the size, shape, volume, or projection of the breasts. These changes are achieved through the use of cohesive silicone gel implants or saline solution implants. At Mountain State Cosmetic, we use both silicone and saline filled implants.
Dr. Paine performs all breast enhancements (breast implants) at his state-of-the-art cosmetic surgical center, Beckley Surgery Center. During a consultation with Dr. Paine, he will discuss various elements of the procedure. Based on the evaluation of possible options, an individualized plan will be created by Dr. Paine and the patient to best serve the patient’s needs. The size and profile of the implant, type of implant (silicone implant or saline implant), where the incision will occur, and the anatomical location of the implant are some of the options that will be discussed.
The ideal candidate for a breast augmentation is someone who has dissatisfaction with the appearance of his or her breasts, who has realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure, and who is is in good physical health, but whose breasts have lost volume and/or shape due to pregnancy, weight loss or aging or whose breasts are asymmetrical.
Breast Augmentation Recovery Time
Usually, recovery from a breast augmentation takes about four to six weeks. A typical patient does experience some pain, which could require pain medication, during the first few days following breast surgery. Most patients are able to return to work within a week and resume exercise gradually in four to six weeks.
Breast Augmentation Results
Immediately following the breast surgery, it is normal to have swelling and for the implants to appear slightly high. After several weeks, the tissues will relax and the implants will take on a more natural position. The patient will see the swelling subside during this time, as well. Incision lines will also fade after a few weeks have passed.
