It Is as Easy as ABC & E: Keeping Your Skin Healthy with Vitamins

Paine, Vitamins & Skin - Image

During the summer, the sun and its damaging UV rays can take a dramatic toll on our skin. Like the rest of the body, our skin depends on a healthy diet. A balanced diet full of vitamins keeps your skin looking and feeling healthy. When combined with powerful in-office skincare treatments, a healthy diet can help boost your skin’s health.

Nourish your skin from the inside out! Make sure to get enough of these vitamins—and try these skincare recommendations from Dr. Paine and our expert staff at the Healing Springs Medical Spa.

CO2 Laser Skin Treatment

A carbon dioxide (CO2) laser for skin resurfacing treatment precisely removes outer layers of damaged skin to reveal the underlying skin which is softer, smoother, and younger looking. It is also a very effective treatment for acne scarring.

This is an ablative laser skin procedure with great results, but it also has the most downtime. Downtime varies from patient to patient, but typically for the first few days your skin will need to be protected, then will gradually heal over the next week. Most patients look like they have had a bad sunburn around day seven. The redness will gradually fade over the next several weeks. Sun protection is an absolute must with this procedure.

CO2 fractionated resurfacing

The Matrix Fractional CO² laser optimizes traditional CO² treatments by introducing MicroAblative Columns (MACs) into the tissue while preserving untreated skin in-between spots. This promotes rapid re-epithelialization and long-term collagen remodeling while offering the patient comfort level and convenience that approaches non-ablative laser resurfacing.

Deviated Septum Correction

The nasal septum is the piece of bone and cartilage that divides your two nostrils. If the septum becomes deviated, it can cause breathing problems and may cause some discomfort in one’s appearance. A septoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct a deviated septum. Dr. Paine can restore proper breathing and a more balanced appearance of the nose with a septoplasty procedure.

Should You Consider Septoplasty?

Men and women who struggle with a deviated septum suffer from an obstructed airway and have difficulty breathing. A deviated septum may also cause an imbalance in your facial appearance or a crooked nose. If you have a deviated septum, a septoplasty with Dr. Paine can help to restore both the function and appearance of your nose.

Septoplasty Procedure Steps

Septoplasty involves the straightening and repositioning of your septum so it is aligned with the center of your nose and face. Dr. Paine will work to create an even separation between the two nostrils. This can help open up any nasal obstruction that was caused by irregular deviation of the nasal septum.

After Your Septoplasty

You will be able to return home the same day of your procedure. We advise having a friend or loved one stay the night with you to provide any necessary assistance. You may experience some swelling near the surgery site, but this should fade within a few days. Dr. Paine will place a gauze moustache dressing that will collect any bleeding from the nostrils. It is normal to have to change this dressing hourly for the first day of your recovery.

Over the next several days, the results of your septoplasty will become more apparent. You will notice a change in the appearance of your nose, and should also experience improvements to your breathing.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Blepharoplasty, or eye lift surgery, is an extremely popular facial plastic surgery procedure that is used to modify the eyelids to create a vibrant and more youthful appearance of the eyes. There are two types of blepharoplasty that Dr. Paine can perform for his patients—upper blepharoplasty and lower blepharoplasty. Each type of eyelid surgery is designed to correct various signs of aging associated with the eyelids. An eyelid surgery procedure with Dr. Paine can help to achieve a dramatically younger, yet completely natural look.

Is Blepharoplasty Right for Me?

Blepharoplasty is best for men and women who are struggling with loose or excess skin along the upper eyelids, or puffiness beneath the eyes. Not all patients will require both upper and lower eyelid surgeries. Dr. Paine will talk with you to determine the best surgery plan to help achieve your desired results. Eyelid surgery can also be used for medical reasons, such as to correct a congenital disorder or to clear vision obstruction that is caused by sagging of the upper eyelid.

Blepharoplasty Recovery

Swelling and bruising are common after having this procedure. Most swelling will subside within the first couple of weeks. Elevating your head will help to resolve the swelling. Daily routines can be resumed in a day or two; strenuous activity should be avoided for several weeks.

Blepharoplasty Results

In several weeks, after the swelling and bruising have resolved, you will be able to see your final surgery results.

Neck Lift Surgery

The cosmetic neck lift surgery is a facial cosmetic surgery procedure that is often combined with a facelift. A neck lift is designed to tighten and strengthen the muscles of the neck to provide a firm and younger-looking profile.

Is a Neck Lift Right for Me?

Patients experiencing loose or sagging skin along the jaw or neck may benefit from a neck lift. A neck lift can help to correct sagging skin along the jawline and may also be used to correct problems with jowls. The neck lift cannot address all areas of the face and may need to be combined with other facial surgeries depending on your goals and expectations. Dr. Paine will often perform a neck lift with a facelift to provide patients with a fuller rejuvenation. Combining your facial surgeries can not only achieve a more youthful appearance, but will also help cut down on your overall recovery and surgery time versus having the procedures done separately.

Neck Lift Recovery

Swelling and bruising can last several days. Tightness, tingling, and numbness may also occur. Most patients are able to return to work in 10 to 14 days.

Neck Lift Results

Results are visible immediately. However, a patient will be able to see final results after the swelling and bruising have subsided in a few months.

Brow Lift

The brow lift (or forehead lift) is a popular cosmetic facial surgery that is used to reposition the brow to a more youthful position. With age, deep furrows or sagging skin can affect the appearance of your brow and forehead. A brow lift with Dr. Paine can help to reverse the effects of aging and restore a younger, more refreshed facial appearance.

Brow Lift Recovery

Initial healing from brow lift surgery will take five to 10 days. Swelling and bruising of the face are common after receiving a brow lift. Itching, tingling, and numbness are also common and should subside within the first week after surgery. Most patients are able to return to work after 10 days.

Brow Lift Results

Once the swelling and bruising have subsided, patients will be able to see visible, long-lasting results within a week.

Chin Implant Surgery

Chin augmentation surgery can help patients who are unhappy with the size or projection of their chin. Through the use of chin implants, we can enhance the size of the chin or correct the projection to achieve your desired results. This form of chin augmentation, or chin enhancement, often creates a more harmonious overall appearance of the face by bringing all features into a proportional and beautiful balance.

Is Chin Implant Surgery Right for You?

Dr. Paine can work with you to develop your own chin surgery plan to help achieve your ideal look. Each chin implant is individually created to the specifications of the patient’s unique situations and goals. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your chin or feel that it is too small or receded, this chin surgery procedure may be the right choice for you.

Chin Augmentation Surgery Procedure

This chin implant surgery usually takes about 30-45 minutes to complete. An incision is made by Dr. Paine, and a pocket is designed to allow the chin implant to be placed directly over the bone along the lower jaw. For solid silicon implants, the incision is made under the chin. When biocompatible material is used (Medpor, for example) an incision is placed inside the mouth. After the implant has been secured, sutures are used to close the incisions.

Chin Surgery Recovery

Swelling and bruising may occur but should subside within four to six weeks. Feelings of tingling or numbness are also common but will not linger more than a few days. Most patients are able to return to work in one or two days.

Chin Surgery Results

Results will be visible immediately. However, final results may not be observed until up to six months after surgery. It is important to remain patient and optimistic during the recovery process. The final results of your chin surgery will provide you with the beautiful, naturally balanced appearance you desire.

Rhinoplasty Nose Surgery

A rhinoplasty or nose re-shaping is a cosmetic surgical procedure used to reshape the contours or size of the nose in order to bring it into accord with the other features of the face. A rhinoplasty may be performed for cosmetic or reconstructive reasons. During your consultation with Dr. Paine, you will be able to discuss your concerns and create a plan together in order to achieve the look you desire.

Some of the Reasons People Choose to Have Rhinoplasty Are:

  • Visible humps or depressions on the bridge of their nose
  • The nose is out of proportion with the rest of their facial features
  • The nasal tip is too large, upturned, round or drooping
  • A nasal deviation or asymmetrical appearance

The best patients for a rhinoplasty surgery procedure are those who are healthy and whose nose is already fully grown. Dr. Paine will work closely with you to determine the best treatment plan for your nose surgery to ensure you achieve your best possible results.

Dr. Paine can also use nose surgery to perform a septoplasty. This form of nose surgery is designed to straighten a deviated nasal septum. A deviated septum can often cause an obstructed airway and may result in breathing problems.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

For the week after surgery, nasal tubes and splints will support the nose as it heals. Initial swelling and bruising will likely subside after a few weeks. Nausea is also common after this procedure. Feeling stuffy is a normal result. It is important not to blow your nose for a week after surgery. If need be, nasal decongestants can help relieve the feeling of stuffiness. Sleeping on your back is required for the first few weeks as no pressure should be applied to your nose. You should refrain from wearing glasses for at least three weeks after surgery, as well. Most patients are able to return to work after 10 days.

Rhinoplasty Results

Most swelling and bruising will resolve in two weeks and the remainder within about a month. However, it could take up to a year for your new nasal contour to fully refine.

Buckley Facelift Surgery

Facelift Cosmetic Surgery

As you get older, the structure of your face changes. Skin loses its elasticity, wrinkles form, and jowls develop along a once well-defined jawline. Fortunately, for men and women who wish to maintain their youthful appearance and age gracefully, there is cosmetic facial surgery. A facelift with Dr. Paine can help to correct many of the signs of aging to provide you with a younger, well-contoured facial appearance for many years to come.

Considering Facelift Surgery in West Virginia?

The facelift is one of the best-known facial plastic surgery procedures and is still one of the go-to solutions for beating the signs of aging. The surgery is most common for men and women in their forties through sixties, but can also be performed as a preventative surgery for those in their mid to late thirties.

The facelift is designed to correct signs of aging in the mid to lower face and jawline. Common problems that can be improved with a facelift include:

  • Deep facial creases (below the lower eyelids or at the corners of the mouth)
  • Sagging skin or a loss of skin tone
  • Jowls

It is also often combined with a neck lift to treat problems such as turkey neck or neck bands and folds. You may also choose to supplement your facelift with a brow lift or eyelid surgery. The facelift surgery works best for patients who still have a strong underlying structure and some skin elasticity.

Dr. Paine will observe your condition during your consultation to develop a personalized facelift procedure plan. This will be based on factors including the current physical state of your face and your own personal preferences.

After Your Facelift Surgery

Some bruising and swelling is to be expected for a few weeks following your procedure. This is a normal component of facial surgery, and will gradually fade as your face continues to heal. Most patients should expect to spend about two weeks to a month away from work and other normal activities.

Once you are fully healed, the results of your facelift will have you looking like a much younger version of yourself. It is not intended to completely change your appearance, but rather to undo some of the effects aging has had on your face. Results can last for up to ten years.
