Ear Surgery in West Virginia

The ears are what frame your face. If you are unhappy with the way your ears look, it can cause you to feel self-conscious or embarrassed about your appearance. Ears that are larger than normal or protrude outward may also cause other facial features to appear unbalanced. Ear surgery, or otoplasty, can help to correct the shape or position of your ears.

Should You Consider Ear Surgery?

Ear surgery procedures are most common with children whose ears are much larger or protrude much farther than normal. However, adults can also benefit from ear surgery with Dr. Paine. Most patients who consider ear surgery are unhappy with the size or position of their ears that have been present since birth. Others undergo ear surgery to correct damage caused by injury.

During your consultation, Dr. Paine will observe the size and position of your ears to develop a proper treatment plan for your unique situation. He will listen to your goals and expectation to provide you with your best possible results.

Ear surgery can safely be performed for children and adults who are unhappy with the appearance of their ears.

Ear Surgery Procedure Steps

To begin your ear surgery, Dr. Paine will make an incision in the back of your ear. From here, he can reduce enlarged cartilage to reposition the ears so they sit closer to the sides of your head. Permanent internal sutures are used to secure the new position of your ears. If the ears are to be resized, Dr. Paine will make an incision within the folds of the ear to access the underlying structure and reshape the cartilage.

After Your Ear Surgery

The results of your procedure will be noticeable immediately. You may experience some bruising and swelling around your ears, but these will continue to fade as your ears heal. Your incisions are kept within the natural folds of your ears, and are intended to minimize any visible scars.

A typical ear surgery recovery will take about 7-10 days, after which you should feel well enough to return to work or school. Your ear surgery will provide you with permanent improvements to the shape, position, and/or size of your ears.
