Rhinoplasty Nose Surgery
A rhinoplasty or nose re-shaping is a cosmetic surgical procedure used to reshape the contours or size of the nose in order to bring it into accord with the other features of the face. A rhinoplasty may be performed for cosmetic or reconstructive reasons. During your consultation with Dr. Paine, you will be able to discuss your concerns and create a plan together in order to achieve the look you desire.
Some of the Reasons People Choose to Have Rhinoplasty Are:
- Visible humps or depressions on the bridge of their nose
- The nose is out of proportion with the rest of their facial features
- The nasal tip is too large, upturned, round or drooping
- A nasal deviation or asymmetrical appearance
The best patients for a rhinoplasty surgery procedure are those who are healthy and whose nose is already fully grown. Dr. Paine will work closely with you to determine the best treatment plan for your nose surgery to ensure you achieve your best possible results.
Dr. Paine can also use nose surgery to perform a septoplasty. This form of nose surgery is designed to straighten a deviated nasal septum. A deviated septum can often cause an obstructed airway and may result in breathing problems.
For the week after surgery, nasal tubes and splints will support the nose as it heals. Initial swelling and bruising will likely subside after a few weeks. Nausea is also common after this procedure. Feeling stuffy is a normal result. It is important not to blow your nose for a week after surgery. If need be, nasal decongestants can help relieve the feeling of stuffiness. Sleeping on your back is required for the first few weeks as no pressure should be applied to your nose. You should refrain from wearing glasses for at least three weeks after surgery, as well. Most patients are able to return to work after 10 days.
Most swelling and bruising will resolve in two weeks and the remainder within about a month. However, it could take up to a year for your new nasal contour to fully refine.
